Edina’s Health Department provides comprehensive environmental, community
and public health services that benefit Edina residents, businesses and
visitors. We strive to accomplish our mission of promoting the general
wellbeing and welfare of Edina residents while preventing disease and
illness in the community. Our preventive approach helps establish and
maintain the high standards essential for healthy and safe communities. All
staff members are registered by the State of Minnesota as Environmental
Health Specialists and meet stringent requirements for education and
training.
Environmental Health
Through a delegation agreement with the State Health Department, Edina’s
Health Department is responsible for issuing health-related licenses and
inspecting food, beverage and lodging establishments; institutions such as
schools and day cares; special events; public swimming pools; underground
parking ramps; and body art facilities. The Department is also tasked with
investigating food complaints and reports of food and waterborne illnesses;
responding to disasters such as fires and floods affecting licensed
facilities; tracking “Freedom to Breathe” complaints; and reviewing
blueprints and completing construction inspections to ensure licensed
facilities comply with applicable codes.
In addition, Edina’s Health Department responds to general and public health
nuisance complaints and housing code violations and acts as a resource on
topics such as private wells, mold, radon, asbestos and secondhand smoke.
Public Health
Community public health services such as health education and promotion,
communicable disease prevention programs, public health nursing services,
health assessments and public health emergency preparedness are provided by
Bloomington Public Health Services.
Recycling/Solid Waste
The Health Department is responsible for the City’s residential recycling
program, administering the refuse collection contract for City properties
and issuing waste hauler’s licenses for general residential garbage pick-up.

Operations and Continuity of Service Plan and coordinates with Bloomington
Public Health for public health emergency preparedness and pandemic
influenza, bioterrorism, infectious diseases and threat planning.
